Our big project: a full-length dance theater work based on Oscar Wilde's captivating fairy tale, "The Fisherman & His Soul."
The tale is a fantasy about a fisherman who falls in love with a mermaid whom he wants to join in the sea, but in order to do so, the fisherman must give up his soul. The story that unfolds is one of Wilde’s most complex and beautiful. It pits the idea of following static moral values against that of individual fulfillment, of pursuing closed perceptions about a person’s worth and ultimate purpose against a radical expansion of what gives us meaning.
This full-length work will include original sets, costuming, and video design. The final production will have performances in the Pacific Northwest (with a probable premiere in Walla Walla, WA in partnership with the Walla Walla Symphony) and in New York.
